Plasmid transfer to Bordetella pertussis: conjugation and transformation.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Plasmids of the P and W incompatibility groups were introduced into Bordetella pertussis by conjugation. Plasmid DNA isolated from B. pertussis could be reintroduced by transformation. DNA isolated from Escherichia coli could not be introduced into B. pertussis by transformation if this DNA contained HindIII restriction sites. We have demonstrated that HindIII sites are modified by B. pertussis. Plasmids of the FI and FII incompatibility groups could not be introduced into B. pertussis by conjugation, and nonconjugative plasmids of the ColE1 and Q incompatibility groups could not be introduced by transformation. Our ability to introduce plasmids in the laboratory suggests that the apparent lack of plasmids in natural isolates of B. pertussis is not due to an inability to act as a plasmid recipient.

Regulation of pertussis toxin and lipopolysaccharide levels of Bordetella pertussis 134 in response to modulators
Whooping cough (pertussis) is a highly contagious disease of the human respiratory tract, which is caused by Bordetella pertussis. Reemerge of pertussis in some highly immunized populations and divergency in gene order among several B. pertussis strains promoted this research to study the change of pertussis toxin (PT) and lipopolysacharide levels in response to the different environments. Th...
متن کاملEVALUATION OF SERUM OPSONIC CAPACITY AGAINST BORDETELLA PERTUSSIS BY CHEMILUMINESCENCE
Serum opsonic capacity against B. pertussis was studied by using quantitative chemiluminescence (CL), a method known to have several advantages over conventional methods in evaluating opsonization and phagocytosis. Sera from unvaccinated infants was shown not to contain opsonins against B. pertussis and in unvaccinated infants suffering from whooping cough, no opsonins were detected. In ad...
متن کاملSeroprevalence of IgG Antibodies against Bordetella pertussis in Different Age Groups in Tehran, Iran
Background and Aims: Pertussis is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable disease. Determination of the seroepidemiology of pertussis makes possible the evaluation of pertussis immunity in a population. In this study, we determined the seroprevalence of Bordetella pertussis IgG antibodies in different age groups in Tehran, Iran. Materials and Methods: Overa...
متن کاملInteractions between Bordetella bronchiseptica and its Host
Bordetella bronchiseptica is a common mammalian respiratory pathogen and is the closely related progenitor of the human pathogen Bordetella pertussis, the organism responsible for whooping cough. Mice are a natural host of B. bronchiseptica, making them an appropriate model for the study of many aspects of the bacterium's biology and its interactions with host cells. In this study the types of ...
متن کاملVirulence Factors Variation Among Bordetella Pertussis Isolates in Iran
Pertussis is still endemic and the recently resurgence of the disease caused by Bordetella pertussis has been shown in many countries. The polymorphism of the virulence genes of B. pertussis and lack of any information about the allelic variation between the Iranian isolates promotes us to analysis of the genes encoded virulence factors including ptxS1, prn, fim3 and cya to understand the diffe...
